Both boys and girls dorm living options are available at T.C. Harris. Each student has a furnished, shared room with the opportunity to decorate and make the space comfortable and reflective of his or her own unique personality. Each bedroom includes an en suite full bathroom. The dormitories are all connected to bright and open gathering areas where the students participate in social, recreational, and therapeutic groups.
The T.C. Harris group homes provide a community based setting for students ages 6 to 21 seeking a less restrictive environment. Our homes are located in the surrounding neighborhoods of our campus and provide daily living skills training in a normalized, home atmosphere with extensive staff support. Our group home programming focuses on community integration and daily living skills so as to help our students move toward greater independence in their lives.
All T.C. Harris students are provided with preventive and routine medical care on campus. Our RN Health Services Director supervises the department in seeing that all of our student’s medical needs are met, whether on campus or with independent medical and dental providers in the community. Our staff is complemented by a consulting psychiatrist and weekly physician visits.
In their free time, T.C. Harris students take advantage of a wide variety of activities both on and off campus. Students have regularly scheduled events and, depending on the season, off campus activities can include movie nights, bowling, skating, and visiting local parks, the YMCA/YWCA, the Children’s Museum, the zoo, and restaurants. On campus all T.C. Harris students, including those who live in our group homes, have access to the T.C. Harris School gym for a variety of structured and unstructured games and play.
